transducer rigging

Just bought new 998c Si and 958. My plan is to run the 958 through the transducer in my Terrova, which leaves me with the transducer that came with it. So my question is, should I buy the Y-cable and use it with the SI transducer that came with the 998? Would this give me optimum performance and give me more flexibility with where I mount the SI transducer on the transom?

    aluminum or glass boat?

if its aluminum, I’d probably skip the 2nd ‘ducer and just use the HDSI….

    either way, good luck!

It would probably give you better 2D performance on plane, and would give you the option to mount the HDSI transducer in more places on the transom.

Getting optimum 2D hi-speed performance out of the HDSI transducer can be tricky. It’s all about transducer placement on the transom and relative to the bottom of the boat. Whittsend has a very good placement on his Lund; I’ve seen images from him in the low-mid 40s. My own placement on my Ranger Angler 1860 is decent….I can get readings into the 40s, but if I lose them for whatever reason, I have issues getting them back. I’ll be rigging a second transducer this week so I’m ready for late April tournaments.

The second transducer option is relatively inexpensive, and will improve the performance of the system and your satisfaction with it. Since you’re a Y-cable away from being able to do it, my suggestion is to go for it.

I’m going this route as well Mike. I just can’t seem to get the SI signal I am wanting with my current transducer position. The 2nd transducer will be going in the traditional position and the HDSI will be going where ever I need it for optimal imaging.

I have an 898c SI coming and I’m wondering what the correct 2D transducer number would be. I think it’s the XNT 9 20 but the 898c SI isn’t listed. Also is AS SIDB Y the correct Y cable? I’m new to Humminbird and haven’t figured out their system yet.

    From a previous thread:

It all depends on whether you’re running glass or tin.

The shoot-through-hull transducer for glass boats is: XP-9-20

The skimmer transom mount transducer for tin boats is: XNT-9-20

You’ll need this Y-cable to do the split as well: AS-SIDB-Y

Those are the correct part numbers for the 898, even though they are not listed as such on the HB website.
