I have a 500 series bird on my boat and it has been a good unit for me but this year in March the transducer made loud ticking noises for my whole vacation. Nearly drove me insane. There was a ton of gunk in the river at the time and I am wondering if this thing was just working hard to get through the foot of crud on the bottom or if my ducer is going? I emailed this question to bird and some fruity girl wasn’t much help and took her 5 days to respond.

I’ve been talking with Humminbird a lot lately. They’ve been extremely helpful, however they are also extremely busy. I highly recommend calling if you would like a rapid response. All my e-mails have been 3 day responses. Until I got a customer service rep’s actual work e-mail. Then responses were within minutes.
