First off thanks Jason for putting your SI seminar online back in the winter.I was mind set to purchase a 798 unit at a boat show and instead made it hurt a bit and ended up with a 997 on clearance.
I am about to take delivery on my new Starcraft I bought late season last year and will be bringing my 997 to the dealer to install.I have been reading alot about setup, etc and am wondering what type of board most people use to mount their transducer on?As well is it better to attach the board with adhesive rather than screwing into the transom? If adhesive is preferred what brand/type is the best to attach the board to my aluminum?Any advice is appreciated.

I just replaced my electronics and decided to switch to a mounting board instead mounting the transducers right to the haul. I installed everything myself and the board I purchased was desinged for this application. I did screw mine to haul. I just put silicone in the holes and it sealed everything up. Boat doesn’t leak a drop.

By using a board you can adjust your transducers without putting more holes in the haul. I would definitely suggest going with a board.

    Welcome to IDO.
Have not yet heard of an adhesive, but then again I don’t know everything.
Screwed into transom with caulk sealant on screws in the corners then used OSI caulk to seal around the board. Reason for OSI, we use it all the time for siding, there are tons of colors and unlike silicone it will not attract dirt and look cruddy. Menards, HD and lowes carry some colors but a siding supplier will be able to order any color. PM me with any ?’S. -Mark

Thanks all for the input.I finally got a chance to visit my marina to set a delivery date and go over installing my 997.They are going to use some starboard for my transducer plate.
