    Do you have to pay for the service?

    Yes, as the data is provided by XM. When I signed up, you could do it month-to-month, so that you didn’t pay for those months that the boat isn’t in use.

    (Irrelevant for me, since my boat gets wet 12 months a year)

    Longer term commitments are also available.

    You also have to purchase the XM weather puck as well, but I think it is worth the investment though.
