Just a heads up for folks considering the Lakemaster WI chip for their HB units and the use of that chip on pool 9. I picked the chip up yesterday and started comparing it to my Lakemaster WI chip in a Lowrance unit. I bounced around to areas I fish frequently, one spot being pool 9. I found that the area below the dam at the head of pool 9 doesn’t show any water. Some of the backwater and slough areas are depicted but I am betting it will come as a shock to the folks on the fishing float that according to Lakemaster WI HB chip that area is shaded as though it is land of course it’s not I just stumbled on a error in the map or had an issue in my HB.
I knew going in that this was not a Lakemaster surveyed area but still expected to see the channel etc as I see in the Lowrance version of the chip. Now when I look at the areas I fished last fall in the HB I see trails and waypoints depicted on land. I put a call in to Lakemaster and a fellow by the name of Trapper had a look and confirmed that the problem does exist and is not a problem with our HB GPS units. The issue is now on Lakemaster’s list of things for future correction with Trapper saying that at this time it would probably not be corrected until the next release of a full update of the WI chip. In the mean time the work around is to pull the HB chip out if you want to see the internal HB map data for that part of the river.
