finishing the install on my 917c. Have downloaded the new software to a sd card. sense it has never been turned on, I have no setting to save. Can I put the updated software as soon as I turn it on? or do I need to turn it on and off once, then load the update. I just don’t want to screw this up.

I would call hummingbird to double check, but just upgraded my 997c and was told that you had to restore factory settings. For me i had to hit menu twice, scroll over to set up down curser to restore default right curser to confirm, put card in and follow the promps.

If you’ve never turned it on, and it is fresh out of the box, then it should already be set to factory defaults. However, as Paul mentioned, resetting to factory defaults is a quick, simple process. Feel free to do so prior to installing your update.
