I put the new HB Rainy/LOW Lakemaster chip in the 997 this weekend. Sat there looking at the map, viewing all the places that I’ve fished up there, and some of the places that I plan to fish at the IDO GTG this September. (OK, MAYBE I even a made a few motor boat noises… )

Anyway, the depth offset was cool… But the shallow water highlight and the target depth coloring rocked!!!! Can’t wait to get up there and try all those features out this year.

As far as loading speeds, it did take a second or two to load after making zoom or target depth shading adjustments, but I can’t see that ever being a hindrance… Can’t wait for a real open water test!!

The target depth highlight is so cool that I’m contemplating getting a few more HB Lakemaster chips for MN/WI.

    Jason –

The depth highlight and shallow water highligh are specific only to HB Lakemaster maps right?

So even if my HB unit is fully updated with the latest software, the D.H, and S.W.H. features are not even options if I have a Navionics chip loaded….

    Correct??

    Thanks!

That’s correct, Mike. Those features are exclusive to the Lakemaster/Humminbird combo.

I can see you doing that (like father, like son, except boats not trains?)

Does HB have a program (or emulator) that will allow you to use the SD card on your PC and prefish?

I am still a lil disappointed about no CD-ROM from Garmin for the rainy lakemaster (allows PC pre-fish and map upload to multiple handhelds). So maybe I will have to come over to pre-fish at your place . Might take quite a bit of convincing to turn my virtual brrrrrrmmmm motor on however.

    OR…
Just get a HB unit with SD card. Ooohhhhh, shaking piggy bank, hopefully soon.

    Later,
    Tim
