Been looking at the 768 for a while now and are thinking of buying it. The only thing that worries me is that I haven’t heard anything good or bad about it or if Lorance has anything that I can compare it to. I need a unit for around $400-$500 that is lakemaster or in this case navionics compatable, has a gps and is dependable. I need all the help you can give me. Also I have heard rumors that navionics has been having some trouble with accuracy in some lakes, ex. reading 10ft when its really 15ft?
    Thanks

Don’t know much about that model. But when it comes to chips they all can be off depending on wether the water level is up or down. On the some of the birds you can adjust it to compensate for this but not sure what models allow that.

I recommend spending just a little more and getting the Humminbird 788C. It will run either Navionics Hotmaps Premium or the Humminbird Lakemaster maps. That’s a great unit.

As far as Lowrance goes, they have announced the new Elite-5 which is similar to the old LMS-332C or 520C and will run about $520 shipped. That would be a good choice as well. The Elite 5 is compatible with both Navionics Hotmaps Premium and Lowrance Lakemaster maps.

If you wanted to go with Lowrance I would look at the HDS 5. I think Thorne Bros is selling them for right around $600. If you go with a Lowrance HD unit you can add the side imaging and down imaging at later date if you want.
