I am wondering if I could mount the GPS puck for the bow graph on the front deck/floor. I dont feel like drilling any holes in my boat

    Bad idea.

    1. It’ll get stepped on, eventually. Boat floor space is precious enough as it is.

    2. You’ll be compromising the signal strength to the receiver, particularly if you mount it close to a gunwale….which you’re sure to do to ensure that it’s not in a high-traffic area.

Tuffy’s are supposed to be Tuff, right Kirt?

I’m exactly with Jason on this one. I dislike poking holes into my boats too but sometimes ya just have to do it. I have the puck for my GPS not far from the light socket in back. It’s nicely out of the way and has 100% unobstructed view of the sky.

One thing I staretd doing came from your same problem of not wanting to drill holes in my boat, or more than I needed. Granted my 02′ aluma 165 mag aint nearly as nice as your new raft.

But i mounted a “base plate” for the thing I wanted to attach. I have or had a bunch of 1″ plexi that i cut squares and mounted the square to the boat and mount mu items to those squares. When I change my set up i can just make a new base plate if i cant cover the holes from the old item. ie. going from a lowrance gps puck to a humminbird puck. I inagine Aluminum would look nice too, enpicially with chamferes edges (45 deg. angle routerd edges)

In the pics Ive got a my down rigger plates mounted this way. above the guage panel is the best view i had on file.

    Just a thought…

    Chucker,
great idea, I’ve been playing around with “mounts” and velcro for some time instead of holes in the boat. The only true negative I’ve learned is that they do wobble and come loose on very rough rides, the sticky back rubs right off with nail polish if I need to reapply or move. BTW….nice Pro60….I just sold my ’93, other than routine maint. I didn’t have one….not one problem with it and used it probably as much as some drive their cars to work.

what about using a marine adhesive like 3M #5200, and glueing it down? Attach it to a little plate first, then glue the plate to the deck. If you’ve ever tried to remove something that had #5200 used as a sealant, you’ll understand why some guys actually use it to just glue transom transducer boards on.

    Kirt,
I agree with HRG. A little marine silicone on the bottom of the puck and your good to go.
