I’ve always been a sucker for gadgets…so last year I sold my trusty old Lowrance 522c iGPS on the work classifieds for a good fair price with the plan of saving my nickles for an SI unit. Well it took a lot of nickles, but I was fairly close so I dropped by the Gander on the way home from work on Friday and there on the shelf hidden behind some other stuff was the last HB 997si combo they had. It was marked down 25% for clearance and then marked down again because it was the dislay unit. After ensuring it had all the parts and no damage from all the curious fingers, it came home with me.

Funny thing is….last fall, after selling my old unit, I fished for months without any GPS or sonar at all and caught just as many fish as usual. So while I’m pretty sure I won’t catch any more fish with this fancy thing at least my inner geek will be satisfied for a few years and hopefully I will learn a few new things about Pool 2.

I did a lot of studying of the competing models being LSS or HB SI and decided for myself that Lowrance had the technological edge. However it seemed obvious to me that they couldn’t compete on price or especially service.

    Now the wait…melt river melt!

Sounds like you got a great deal on the depth finder. Dont forget your friends when you start snooping around on pool 2 with it.
