Only thing I can say is to make sure the chip is seated all the way in.
January 23, 2010 at 9:26 pm #835462Make sure nothing is on the SD card prior to loading the update onto the card! In other words format the SD first and then the load the update. Not sure if it’s self extracting like Lowrance updates are not. If not you may have to launch the update through the unit.
January 23, 2010 at 9:50 pm #835470Humminbird recommends restoring defaults first. That wont help your issue. Just fyi. If that unit has 2 card slots try the other! Also the update has to be just as you got it from humminbird. That is you cant open folders, rename the file and etc.hope this helps!
January 23, 2010 at 10:32 pm #835484What software version? 4.75? is this with si.
Did you restore defaults prior to upload?
Are you using the right sd card reader (bay)?
Do you have power?
Is the dc cord pluged in the correct accessory bus?
Your certain the update is on the sd?

[email protected]January 25, 2010 at 4:34 pm #836090Here is an update; I have been recieving quite a few emails and PM in regards to units locking up after or during the update and wanted to post this for everyone again.
All or at least all of the problems I have heard about during updates have been when users have inserted the SD card prior to Powering on the Unit. I have this problem on my 997c, it will not take an update if I put the SD card in first.
The Official Humminbird Website says to Power On the Unit, then Insert the SD Card!
http://www.humminbird.com/support/FAQ.aspx?faqid=35After you have Restored the Factory Defaults, just insert the SD card and the unit will begin the update. You can power it down and back on again if you want, but wait until it is completely booted up before sticking the SD card in the slot.
A lot of older material says to insert the SD card before you power on. This will work with most units, but I highly recommend you do not use this method! This is how the original updates were done, and it was later changed.

The Humminbird Side Imaging Forums Team.trouter18Posts: 106January 28, 2010 at 3:07 am #837231The first time I tried it (a few weeks ago) I tried just downloading the update file and then copying that directly to the sd card. It didn’t work. Then I downloaded the Humminbird PC connect software and uploaded the file to the sd card through that software. This time it worked perfectly. (PS I used a camera as my SD card reader no problem). The instructions (to me) were unclear that the PC connect software had to be used to “upload” it to the card. If you that doesn’t work for you, then I have no clue, as I am a rookie at this.
