Humminbird has begun to release a set of new software updates.

    The current update includes:

    • Three new Side Imaging Color Palettes and one new 2D Color Palette.
    • Enhanced GPS response rate
    • Switchfire

This update affects the following models:

    718, 728, 778c, 788c, 1157c, 1197c

Additional models to be added later this week include:

    788c, 788ci, 798c

The remaining models will get their updates on January 2010, when Humminbird releases Down Imaging and the new Waypoint Management tools.

New software for a registered product can be downloaded (for free!) to your PC from the support section of the Humminbird website (www.humminbird.com).

Note: Be sure you restore your Factory Defaults before and after you update the software

Not sure, but the new SI color patterns (Amber 1 and Amber 2) look great on my 1197c.

The Amber color palettes are the ones we’ve been seeing in the Down Imaging screen captures.

The only things you’ll need are an SD card, like the one you probably have in your digital camera, and an SD card reader so your computer can write the software update to the card.

The update is less than 5 MB in size, so you won’t need a giant card or anything like that.

Here’s the step-by-step way to do the update:

    1. Register your product at http://www.Humminbird.com
    2. On the Humminbird site, go to “support”, then “my account”. All of your registered equipment will be displayed.
    3. For your new 1197, click on “1197c SI combo update (version 4.700)”
    4. Download the software to your PC
    5. Copy the software to an SD card
    6. Power up your 1197
    7. Restore factory defaults
    8. Power off the 1197
    9. Insert SD card with update
    10. Power up the 1197. Follow the instructions to load the update, and don’t fuss with the unit while the update is in process.
    11. The 1197 will automatically reboot when the update is done.
    12. Enjoy your enhanced Humminbird experience!

I don’t use any cables. I have an SD card reader built into my laptop. I copy the update to the SD card and pop the card into the Humminbird unit.

Look mine over and no SD reader. Wallyworld has them for about 10 bucks.
    Thanks

Can I go to the humminbird site and copy it straight to my card reader then to the sonar? Is there a need to copy it my PC?
