Good job eyes! So once again I sit here looking at side images and need help, I’m getting better at this, no worries! So the black line down the middle, I know this is the keel line, but why is it always black? I first assumed the the boat was located on a channel and it was depth, but all the images I’ve seen have this. On the images, where does one ‘tie’ the two sides together? Thanks, CZ.

You are only missing a small portion of the bottom, depending on depth. The SI has a cone right below the boat that won’t read bottom due to the angle of the transducer. the deeper you are, the more of the bottom you will miss, although it isn’t much. a few inches to a few feet usually. the dark center zone is where the sonar hasn’t yet contacted bottom due to tranducer angle.

Didn’t Jason have a good explanation post a while back??? Maybe try searching the previous posts??
