Basically like hooking your laptop computer up to another monitor or TV. Just using a screen other than (or in addition to) the HB unit itself to view the information.

Is there a monitor out connector on the HB then? Because mine has nothing like that but I have a 1st gen HB SI.

My transducer doesn’t throw a noticeable roostertail and performs well (looking down) up to about 30 mph….then it gets caught up in wake turbulence and stops providing depth readings until I slow back down again.

One downside of my ‘ducer mounting position is that it is exposed to stuff in the water column. My primary concern at this point is ice this winter on P4. We’ll see how it goes.

A through-hull (for high-speed down-looking readings) coupled with the SI for slower side images is becoming the standard mounting scheme. The 2 ducers are connected via the standard Y cable provided with the unit, and the most recent software versions automatically switch to the through hull ducer for high speed readings.

I’ll be adding a through hull ducer as soon as I can.

Jason, I run a 18-1/2′ DynaTrak bassboat. Shooting through hull I can go to low 50’s in semi-smoothe water before it breaks up. Worth the time to glass it in. Also, I mounted my hidef ducer above my step in the transom. So on plane, it is out of the water and no fear of it taken out by an object in the water

I collected those initial images with my 997c, and then revisited the boat with the 1197c in place to compare the images of this object collected by the two units. The raw screen captures are shown below. I tried hard to move along the same path (I got close) and at the same speed (I pegged that one….3.0 mph each) for both images. The 997c’s screen capture is on the left, with the 1197c on the right

Did you notice the differences where your kicker only leaves a very small line on the 997 to a much wider line on the 1197.

The sand edges behind the cribs on the 1197 show up much more distinct, they seem to wash out on the 997. As stated earler could be just a slight change of angle.

Thanks Jason for taking the time to make some good side by side comparisons.

I may have missed it if it was said before – I use the 1197c to look for underwater objects (diving) and not so much for fishing. In terms of settings, what is recommended for searches (455)? Any other advice would be welcome.
