I’m going to head out this afternoon to shoot some more Side Iamges with my Humminbird 997.

Does anyone have any specific requests of things they’d like to see?

    So far, my list includes:

    1. Shoot images with 455 vs. 800 kHz SI beams

    2. Shoot a drop-off from the deep side with structure at the base and on top

    3. Shoot a weedline (that one will be tough….I don’t the weeds are coming along just yet, but we’ll check).

    4. Shoot some deep fish with the TVG feature on and off (ok…that’s not a Side Image, but the TVG on/off feature is part of the most recent HB software update).

    5. Shoot some crappies for Jeff

    6. Main Channel edge for Ruger

Jason, I would like to see a 997 mounted on my dash, by the time I get home from work. Is that request feasible? Seriously, whatever you feel like posting for us will be much appreciated! Nice out now, maybe rain by afternoon, enjoy it while you can. Thanks

Jason, if you get a chance, can you show us what panfish look like on the display?

I don’t know if we can be that speedy about it, but I know that Skeeter Boat Center has a pretty quick turn-around on units ordered through and installed by them. Did you check out their new promo?

Jeff, I had a couple pods of crappies pinpointed last time out….if they’re still there, I’ll get some images of them.

Get some fish shots, preferrably some suspended and some on the bottom, shallow and deep? Would like to see larger fish vs smaller fish.

I would also like you to show me the difference between bass and walleyes on the deep breaklines, can you do that?

Might be hard to ID fish without actually catching them. Probably an educated guess at best based on depth, suspension, schooling habits, etc… But if anyone can do it, Jason might be the man.

I had a real nice pod of crappies marked suspended over 30-ish+ feet of water right by the X-bridge pilings. Would have made a super cool screenshot, but I didn’t have my memory card with me last time out. I also had some panfish marked shallower and a bunch of pretty sweet pics of the various bridges, cribs, and river structure. Next time!!

Jason, I would like to see what YOUR 997 is showing while you are in the main channel. Specifically drop out with varying depths from one side to the other. Obviously one side is getting shallower and one is getting deeper. I’m not sure mine is set up properly yet. I’d like to compare.

Getting a positive ID on any particular fish is a tough one. I have seen side images during my Humminbird training that looked very convincingly like a musky…long, skinny fish on SI…and had that tentative ID backed up my a picture of a musky that was caught in association with that particular image. I have also seen images of big bluegill spawning areas (lots and lots of dishpan-shaped beds) with bright white returns in the middle of some of the beds….presumably those are bluegills. We should be able to collect similar images on Wissota as the water warms up.

On one of the images I posted the other day, there were a bunch of fish scattered along a shallow flat. I presumed that some of these were walleyes, as I was able to catch a couple eyes in the area that I collected the side images from. Some of those returns could have easily been other fish, but my presumption is that at lest some of them were walleyes. A lot of them look pretty chunky….maybe carp or magnum smallies??

Mike….right by the X bridge, you say

Just so I understand you….you’d like a side image of a main channel edge, with the boat somewhere along the edge. Deeper water out to one side and shallower water out to the other. If that’s what you’re looking for, I’ve got ya’ covered!

That is exactly what I was trying to say. Thanks Jason.

Don`t forget fish pics with your smileing mug in them. If you have time to fish after capturing all these images.

Tom, my daughter is the designated fish-cranker this afternoon. I hope pics of her with crappies and walleyes will suffice.

There’s some Panfish in this thread: SI Thread w/ Panfish

And Here on the second page:
SI Thread w/ Panfish, Bass and Pike

The bass and pike one has a poor image of a weedline on the right. It’s kind of neat, if you’re trolling, you can use the weedline image to stay on the edge of the weedline.

Yup, no secret spot or anything, I just happened to be looking at the bridge pilings as I went under the X bridge. While the pilings and bottom structure were very cool, I also saw a pod of what looked to be a dozen or so crappies hanging out maybe halfway down.. Just off one of the pilings. hard to remember exactly, wish I would have gotten that screenshot… could have been other fish I suppose, but I figured it was crappies suspending just off of the shallower areas. They were tightly packed and well off the bottom. Maybe 20 feet down?? I think it was over about 40 fow if I recall… As you head into the little lake, it was under the very first bridge.. Directly under it. Its been a few weeks now, though – I’m sure that school might have mooved a little.

I took a few casts with a tube, but gave up quickly for two reasons… 1) I wanted to keep looking at more SI images on other parts of the lake and 2) I started getting awefully close to banging one of my avids on the bridge overhead. Enough of that nonsense.

If you get over that way, see what you find under the X bridge. Neat screenshots, if nothing else.

you can find a ton of images at these sites as well… Not Wissota images, I know, but maybe helpful nonetheless. Definately helped me research the unit and understand capabilities before I bought it.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sideimaging/ – need to become a member, but its fast/easy. Tons of images

http://imageevent.com/okoboji_images/hummingbirdsideimaging? — neat walleye shots, much like Jason’s shots from Wissota. Cool anchor drag mark as well — I found an anchor drag mark in the river above wissota last time out – looked just like the one on this site. Way cool!

http://www.xumba.scholleco.com/ – forum with lots of help and images.
