I collected a big bunch of Side Images with my Humminbird 997 on Wissota today….cribs, sand points, flats, timber, rocks….and fish!

That is really cool! I have been wanting to see one of the
Hummingbirds SI’s in action. I definitely am thinking of getting one of these. Thanks for the pix, Jason.

    Thanks Tad!

Let me know if there is something specific that you’d like to see with Humminbird Side Imaging….like weeds, rocks, docks, suspended fish, bridges, etc etc etc. I should be able to track down just about anything you’re interested in.

When you’re ready to buy, Skeeter Boat Center in Chippewa Falls, WI has a great program in place to provide the best possible pricing on Humminbird products, and they’ll even go the extra mile and professionally rig them on your boat for a very reasonable charge. Placement of the SI transducer is critical for the best images, and the crew at Skeeter Boat Center knows exactly how to do it, no matter what type of boat you’re running.

Alternatively, if you want to do the rigging yourself, drop Wade at Jolly Ann Sales a line. Wade has some great pricing on the 997c right now. On top of that, you’ll get great customer service, free shipping to your door, and no sales tax outside of IA.

    Dang you Jason

I’ve really had the itch to get one of these out on the river to learn how to use it and interpret what I’m seeing. The seminar at the Skeeter boat center really helped, but I need time with the unit to learn it.

Might have to book a little time with you to boost the learning curve….

Learning the unit is much easier than you might think, Jami.

Many of the settings that I used to capture those images are the factory defaults…..the units are set up to work well, right out of the box.

Capturing the images them selves is as easy as (1) enable screen capture on the main menu, (2) press “mark” to capture image, (3) take SD card out of unit, put it in PC, and download images. No extra processing is required…the images are ready to view, right out of the unit.

Wait till you see what it’ll do for your wingdam fishing on P3. Pretty easy to see trees on dams, blowouts, or other structural features that collect fish.

I would really like to see a picture of a weedline. I do a lot of trolling, and if I troll a weedline, I have to lay a trail first. I would think I can skip this step with an SI.
I could see how close I am to the weeds and get a better image of pockets and points in the weedlines.

Comin’ right up….as soon as the weeds do.

In my past experience on Mille Lacs, we were able to follow weed edges without ANY trouble whatsoever. Even better was the ability of SI to see the pockets in weedbeds, and then move the cursor and drop waypoint right on top of the pockets. Use the trolling motor to sneak up on those pockets, drop a couple of soft casts in there and set the hook!
