My Humminbird 788ci power cable connection at the head loses snug connection periodically, and unit powers off. New cable didn’t solve problem. Apparently the female contacts are not tight enough, and access for adjusting them doesn’t seem reasonable for a user to attempt. Does anyone know a resolution?

Common problem with the PC 11 power cable. The solution has been to bend the male connectors slightly outward (spread apart) which makes a tighter fit. Word is that this is just a temporary fix and would need to be done again. Very poor design in my opinion and I am a little distressed with Humminbird for not giving us a better fix.

Very poor design. My 958 does it all the time with even the slightest bump or touch and is very frustrating. Have tried new cables, bending the pins, wrapping the plug with tape and all end up to the same results. Great unit if im sitting very still bobber fishing. Haha

I wonder if that connector issue is mine too…when cruising in some waves, it will power off. Have checked every connection EXCEPT what you said. That might be it! Thanks for the post!

First thing I thought when I seen this horrible connection design of HB’s is WTF??? What moron of an engineer, do you employ, that would ever have such a brain fart? If you need help HB let me know, cause I have a solution. We pay good money for this cheap attempt??

My 788 is getting replaced (again) for that very reason. Decent unit but if it won’t stay on it’s gone.

There is a part called a cable collector that screws into the back of the unit and holds the cables in place. It is supposed to work on all 800 and 900 units. Not sure if this would help, would probably need to bend pins also. I know that you can get these cheaper than this, but here is a link:
