I just received this Hummingbird unit from Cabelas. Can anyone give me a recommendation of a good Ram mount or other brand to buy for mounting it on the single counsel of my 1650 Fish Hawk? Having a swing arm on it too would be a good option. Any help is appreciated.

I have the bigger RAM mount and it is solid. I have it mounted to the plastic console which is not the best because it does have some wiggle from the flex in the console. That being said, the RAM mount itself is solid.

Adding a piece of marine plywood under the console should help firm up that wiggle.

Have my 998 on a Ram 202 base that has 1.5″ ball. Holds it just fine. You can get a short or long double socket arm. For the 1100 series Birds you definately want the 2.25″ ball system. Go to Amazon.com, search Ram Mounts and you can get and idea of all the options available.

I run the 1.5″ ram mounts on my 900 series bird units and 2.25″ on my 1100 series. No issues at all. Make sure what you mount it to is solid though because its only as ridged as the weakest link…

If the 2.25″ fits your dash then by all means go that route. I do not care for how big the mounting plate is and over hangs the gimbal base so much on the 900 series gimbal.

I run the 1.5″ ball on my 898, but i will likely upgrade to the 2.25″ this year. Gotta tighten the snot out of it when you are in ROUGH water. For some reason when the wind blows over 40mph, i tend to be the only idiot on the water. Yes, the 1.5″ will work, but the 2.25″ will work better.

When I was looking around getting ready to put a 1100 on my boat a couple guys recommended the Johnny Ray mount. Looked at it and liked the idea, but after messing around on the console I couldn’t come up with a way to make that mount work and fit the unit in. Ended up going with the D111. Not able to put it on water yet, but I used my affinity with gravity to get the boat bouncing/rocking on the trailer and it was rock solid for that. The 788, mounted on a 1.5″ RAM did jiggle a little in that test though.

I had the ram large ball on my previous boat and a ram swing Arms on my skeeter. No comparison which is better. The swing arm ram.

Thanks guys for all of the great input as it is appreciated. I ended up ordering a Ram Heavy Duty Mount with the 2 1/4″ ball as I think it will work best for my locator and boat. I also ordered the Ram wrench so I can tighten it down securely. I decided to go with the larger ball in case I ever wanted to upgrade to an 1100 series Bird.
