700 series

I am putting together my upgraded electronics on my boat which came with only a 788c at the wheel connected to a dual beam transducer and an unused us2 sonar transducer on the terrova. The 2 major upgrades are a 999 si at the wheel ethernet connected to a new Link system installed on the terrova. I also am replacing the dual beam on the transom with a new found love, the quadrabeam transducer. I mostly fish off the back of the boat, but the bow where my nephew fishes is a bit naked. My decision is to install a 788ci at the bow connected to the us2 in the terrova. I have a bow mounted deployment arm supporting my si transducer. My question is will the 2 bow mounted transducers cause interference with each other?

On a separate note it appears the 700 series are being discontinued. The new 600 series are not ethernet capable, nor are they compatible with the Link system. 700s are going fairly cheap, but won’t last forever. I saved a few hundred bucks by getting a 788ci for the bow that is ethernet / Link compatible vs buying a 859 which when the 700s run out will be the cheapest unit capable of networking with at very least the Link.

If you research the Humminbird and Minn Kota sites for the transducers involved,
you will find that you are duplicating a lot of the same frequencies on the transducers.
then you need to check the cone angles for the frequencies you are using at the depths you fish
to make a good guess if there will be interference.
I am thinking that it will be likely as the bow separation can’t be that far on the two transducers.

From my understanding si is useful while moving and 2d covers more area while stationary. So as to not have competing returns I plan on turning the us2 off during conditions like trolling, and turning the si transducer off while stationary fishing. Bottom line is only have one transducer on at a time. At least I hope it works.

I am running a 898 with si and a 788ci up front. I also run a Terrova ipilot link. I have all the units running off the Ethernet. I have tried running both at the same time using the US2 on the Terrova. I must admit I have only run it a few times but experienced no interference. 99.8% of the time I am using the transducer from the back of the boat sending information to the 788 via the Ethernet. This way any one up front can get information when the Terrova is not deployed.

I have tried running both transducers only to see if their was interference. My thinking is that I would see some but have not. I am going to try to hit pool 4 early this year and try again and will let you know.

Thanks, your setup is very similar to mine. The Tuffy will not be on the water until after May 1st as the flowage is drawn down till then. Unless I get the itch to haul from Milwaukee up to pool 4 and meet all my new best friends, my excursions will be on my Jon boat trying to figure out the Wisconsin River. There I run dual 700s mounted side by side at the tiller seat. one connected to a quadrabeam at the transom, the other connected to a wide side at the bow.

Are you using a Humminbird Ethernet switch in this setup?

And do you have a second transducer mounted up front?

Up front I have an old powerdrive that is converted to a deployment arm and houses the 999s side imaging transducer. The terrova has the intregal us2 dualbeam transducer connected to the 788ci HD at the bow. I do not have then linked together via ethernet.

Hummm what an interesting idea. Would you mind sharing a picture here or PM me. I’d like to do that with my DI transducer… Most interested on where and how you mounted on your rig….

No I donnt have a second ducer up front.
Sorry for my delayed reply Have not been on site for awhile.
Yes I use the ether net hub I believe it has provision for 5 in puts to share information. My 788 is used mostly as a monitor. I use the rear transducer from the 898. If the Terrova is deployed you go into the menu and select the Terrova US2 transducer if you want to. But I have very little time on the water with it. I did test it once to ensure that I do not have any interference issues and none came up. But like I said I have not spent much time with it on the water. Really hoping to change that this year.

I went out on pool 4 with it on Saturday. I did not use the ducer on the Terrova. It was bitterly cold and did not feel like experimenting too much. I will say the 898 and 788 work great. You could see where the “eys” were stacked. The bite was slow but got a few.
