I am reading in reviews that the processor is kind of slow when zooming in with these models.
I need info on their ability to zoom in on fish and see the bait in the water (if possible with this series).
Is the 700 series faster and have better display and speed at zeroing in on underwater targets.
Is the DI sharper than the SI or is it the same?

Information and advise about this is appreciated.

    As you go up the product line, 5- 6 7 8 9 11
the processors get bigger and faster
    and the price goes up.

RE: Is the DI sharper than the SI or is it the same?

I think the term sharper in this context can be confusing.
The DI displays what is under the boat
whereas the SI displays what is beside the boat.
The two displays would have similar detail
    but of different target areas.

As far as your question about seeing the bait,
If this bait is under the boat
then this would be more likely in the DI target area
    BUT
When I use my SI unit
I just switch to the 83Hz 200hz split screen
to see the same thing using the raw images.
You can see the jig and minnow being worked on this view.

In my opinion, the SI units are the only way to go.
You drive by using the SI to cover water and locate fish.
    Come back and anchor
Toggle between SI, the DI (different than the DI units)
and the 83/200 screen and fish.

The last number indicates the processor. 557 997 1197 use the single processor and are slow with the new lake chips. Units ending in 8 have a dual processor and can handle the newer lake chips with all the information. Prices are dropping fast on the 1198 and 998 so I would look for a complete new unit to come out in 2014.
