Is it worth fixing?

I have been having trouble with my Humminbird 597 ciHD with Down Imaging (can not read bottom/no sensitivity). I have tried the factory resets that support recommended and will now have to send the unit in. The service cost is 160 dollars, is it worth fixing knowing it is 2 years old and I can still use it as a very nice GPS with Map Chip and just add a sonar on? Has anyone else ran into a deal like this?

It seems to me like that the HB company should want to give you some freebee service.
Not good advertisement to ask you that kind of cash to fix something that they should be happy to warranty out for you.

I have a ‘Bird, and would be thinking or looking at another brand if forced to buy a replacement already.
This stuff is pricey to shoot craps and in that short of time.

Did you try a differant transducer with your unit?

Exactly…If you know someone else with a similar transducer, put your HBird on their boat for a day and see. Likely a transducer gone bad. I’d hate to spend $160 and then find out that you need to buy a $160 transducer.

I have not tried a new transducer as I don’t have anyone close that has the same unit. I did a little research on this problem and it sounds like it is fairly common.

If it was Lowrance they would want much more for another unit and never even have the option to repair the unit. With this line of thinking then most anything should not be out of warranty if something goes wrong. How about my van only out of warranty by 10 months should Ford repair it if it breaks down there is a limit to any warranty. When a product is purchased it is understood at the beginning how long the warranty period is.

I have my opinion, you have yours, let’s just drop it at that.
Tight lines and have a great day.
