I’m trying to figure out how to get the widest beam. Under the beam select menu I have the option of 455 khz or 200 khz. Which one is wider and does anybody know the coverage area? I’m pretty sure the 200 khz is 3 feet per ten feet of water but not sure on the 455. Also I have an image frequency option, 800 khz and 455 khz. What is that all about? Thanks for any help offered.

found the answer in the manual: http://store.humminbird.cust.shopatron.com/media/document/587_597_HD_DI_Manual.pdf

200 vs 455 is for the sonar view. 200 is a 25degree beam and 455 is a 16degree so the wider is the 200.

The 800 vs 455 is for down imaging view. I couldn’t copy and paste but the info you’re looking for is on page 105 and 106 of the manaul. 455khz is the widest and recommended. 800khz is sharper, narrower, but may not work for greater depths.

    Good luck

Thanks for the info. So many manuals so little time. So how do I formulate the coverage per depth in the 25 degree beam?

the degree of the transducer is diameter of view @ 60ft. deep. half the depth = half the diameter of view. 25 degree is 25 ft. at 60′, 12.5 ft. @ 30′, 6.25 ft. @ 15′, 3.125 ft. @ 7.5′ of depth.
