Humminbird 898c GPS issues

My Humminbird 898c is having intermittent GPS issues. It’s mostly gone, including all the pages dealing with GPS, but then again, they pop back for a while. When I do a check, it shows either everything disconnected, except for temperature, which I don’t have, or else things are all connected.

Do I have to disconnect the whole shebang and take or send it in, including the GPS receiver, or can I just have the unit checked somewhere? And where is a good place to get it checked. I’d rather not have it gone for the rest of the season if possible.

I pulled the chip out of it, so I don’t have to deal with a faulty chip, at least for now.

Do you know someone else that has the same setup? If so just take your depthfinder to that boat and hook it to see if it works. I am no expert but it sounds like your GPS antenna is bad or has a bad connection.
