I realize that the 858c HD is the latest unit, but what are the main differences between the two? I would assume that the HD unit has a much faster processor and probably has a much crisper sonar display.
The reason I ask is I can get the 858c for a lot cheaper than the 858c HD unit and the 858c is also ethernet compatible, which means that I would be able to use the unit paired with the iLink once I decide to upgrade to that down the road.

I was doing the same research but for the 500 series recently. There’s a couple older posts in the Humminbird forum. If I remember right the HD is LED backlit and the non-HD is not.

My dad just got the 998c SI/DI for his boat at a hefty discount over the HD and he’s not sure what the difference could be. Its clear crisp and works excellent with the I pilot link. I think you could get by without the HD. The money he saved on it vs the HD got him the smartcraft gauges on his new boat.
