Hooking up bird to trolling motor

Going to be putting a second bird(597 CI)up on the bow. I plan on mounting the transducer to the trolling motor. It’s a Minnkota without the built in ducer. Has anyone drilled a hole in the TM shaft in order to fish the cable up the shaft and out the head? I really don’t want to have the cable attached at just the top and bottom and hanging loose.
Also, can I just connect it to the TM battery?
    Thanks for any input.

    Hi,
Here is a link to install a HDSI xducer on a Terrova. Your install should be similar. As a sidebar you never hookup a sonar box to a TM battery (use your starting motor battery) >>>> your begging for interference issues.

I could only ziptie/tape the cable at the top and bottom of the shaft, which leaves a lot of loose cable, which I want to avoid.

Don’t have the Terrova, so I don’t have that nifty little groove in the shaft. Completely smooth.

The risk of drilling into the shaft is getting water into the motor unit itself, and bye bye motor.
