    RE: Humminbird 858c HD DI

    “No, it is not compatible….

There is no 100% correct answer. Technically, you can connect the US2 xducer to a DI fishfinder. However, due to the internal design of the DI units, the sonar performance will be less than optimal. In addition, they can only use the 200kHz frequency. Because of these issues, the official stance is that US2 and DI are NOT compatible (which is why they are not on the US2 chart).”

    Oh well………….live and learn.

Anyone know if when you buy the 858 HD DI from Univerasal Mania if a transducer comes with it or you have to purchase separately? and recommendations if so…

    Dan,

Why not mount the DI transducer to the trolling motor?

    SWC

Everything needed will come with it, unless it is listed a a CHO (control head only),

I would rather not deal with the cable down the shaft of the
    TM.

You can avoid having the cable running loose down the shaft by siliconing it into the grove in the TM shaft. stays tight and you dont have to worry about it getting caught on anything and breaking!

Yes, when we put an external transducer on the terrovas we will run the transducer cord up the cut out in the shaft so it stays put and out of the way. Havent had any issues since we started doing it. It takes quiet a bit more time but is worth it.

    Eric,

How do you get the cable through the pivoting arm of the Terrova?
Wouldn’t it have to go through the arm in order to
silicone the wire in the groove?

    Thanks,

    Dan

This link will give you a step by step on how to run it. I would use silicone instead of epoxy though.

Thanks for the link Eric. I’m considering using the DI transducer but haven’t yet decided.

Another question for you on the 858 install. Do you always
use the cable connector insert or is it optional.

Thanks for all of your help!
