    Where are you guys mounting your external precision gps module? I am not sure where to mount myne yet. I am putting the unit in the front of the boat, I think it would make the most sense to mount it somewhere up front, but waiting to see what the rest of you have done that have mounted it up front.

    What kind of boat do you have? Some guys prefer to mount their puck as close to their transducer as possible and others mount them off the side of their counsel. It just has to do with personal preference. I think it is easier to drive up on a spot if it is off the side of the counsel, but more detailed if it is as close to the transducer as possible.

    i,m at a loss..what does the postion of the GPS puck and transducer have to do with each other ?

    Your unit reads depth from the transducer. Your location on a map chip/gps is read from the gps puck. In a longer boat, that could mean you could be reading 12′ of water and position shown in 20′. In a 20′ boat, the position error could be 10′ ( if puck is mounted on dash), plus the gps error of up to 10′. That means that a waypoint marked could be up to 20′ off or more.

    100 Percent right. My console gos puck is of the back by my motor. My front gps is next to my trolling motor.

    Please bring open water soon.

    i guess i’d rather keep my puck on the dash where it’s less likely to get knocked around and look at the depth when i get to a spot..they are both on the screen or can be.. the amount of variation with the GPS is not solved by putting the puck next to the motor..to each his own

    There may be some truth to that with a 2Dunit, but with a SI unit, where you’re dragging a waypoint to something off to the side, it’s more important for the two to be together.

    You can curser a waypoint in 2d also, just makes sense to have gps close to transducer.
