Ok… I am taking everyones suggestion to step up a few $$$’s, this is a strech and I can go no higher so “please” don’t suggest that. Anybody have any experience with the Hummingbird 788ci HD Di Combo? Any better than the 597ci HD DI?? I would like to hear any and all the pro’s and the cons on the 788ci HD DI unit. Also if there was any customer service personal issues and/or any warranty issues. Anything at all you can tell me about this unit compared to the Lowrance Elite 7?

    Thanks!

Both are great units. If you’ve had one brand before then you may find it easier to stick with the same brand.
The biggest difference between the 788 and the Elite 7 would be the screen size.

The 788 has Ethernet connections for linking units together. The Elite 7 does not. If your NOT planning on linking, go for the Lowrance, way more bang for the buck!

The elite can be linked with other lowrance.

I’ve only had my elite 7 on the water about 30 hrs but so far I like it. I can’t say anything about warranty issues with the limited use so far. I was in the same boat looking at the same humminbirds and ended up having the elite 7 selling it’s self to me. It’s hard not to go with a bigger screen for the same price.

Do you have any available to you that are close you can check out? When I pulled the trigger on my 597 I did my due diligence of research online but all came down to going in to the store and checking them out for myself. Seeing the layout, menus, buttons, all that good stuff. To me the birds have an easier format than the Lowrance. And being these models are in the middle price range and features, I didn’t feel the need to have all the fine tuning options that a Lowrance might give simply bc the unit just isn’t that “tune-able”.

No… I don’t have any of the Lowrance fish finders here as no one stocks them, something to do with a not so friendly rep. from Lowrance. But have heard good things about Lowrance finders. All I have availble is a few Hummingbirds at a couple different stores. I would love to try the Elite 7 before buying one… If I go that way! Is the bigger Lowrance Elite 7 screen really that much better for viewing???
