I decided to purchase the I Pilot Link as an add on to my MinnKota Terrova and connect to the 998 on the dash. I installed the head, ran the cables, updated the 998 software. I turned the unit on and I have no GPS and the unit does not recognize any of the connection. I called Tech Support and they said I need to register the I Pilot and re-install the software. I’ve made several attempt to register online but it just won’t allow me to. Has anyone else had any problems with the upgrades?

Humminbird customer service was always a bugger for me as well. I hope you have better luck. I had problems with my 798 gps as well. After I updated it the problem went away!

Be sure to make sure the software update is on the 998.

What software version are you running on your Humminbird?

I upgraded the software to 6.61. I called Cory at Reeds Sporting and he was very helpful. He made a call to the field rep and got back to me within a half hour. He suggested I reload 6.49 and reset. Then redo the new 6.61 again. I first will be able to try it on Saturday.

Sometimes with a new unit, it can take up to half an hour to locate itself to the GPS towers also.(this is a one time occurence) That may have been the issue if you just hooked everything up and once and fired it up..

I have everything hooked up and have had it on while trolling on Lake Michigan. It never found the GPS signal. I’ve been in contact with Humminbird tech support. They had me hook up my 788 and change it to external antenna. The 788 didn’t see the GPS either. Humminbird is sending a new antenna under warranty. I hope it works. I’m heading to Erie in a couple of weeks and will be fishing a few local tournaments.

Finally figured it out. It was a bad GPS antenna. Can’t imagine how it could go bad over the winter. Humminbird sent a new one under warranty and everything works. I’m going to try the contour trolling today.
