If a person buys a “new” 1198c how do you know…

    If it is last years model if there is such a thing and is there a newer one coming out soon? what about the software?
    If I buy today do I need to immediately upgrade the software?

    All 1198csi ‘s are the same with the exception of its downloadable software.

    It is very common to get a 1198 that was manufactured a number of months ago. I personally don’t know of any model changes, other than software.

    Yes, it is very common and easy to upgrade to the newest version of software. Software revisions come out as the manufacture needs them. The H/bird website is very easy to use to download any upgrades. Read your manual and it will walk through the very easy process

    if its a 2013 model, the serial number will start with 13 if is a 12 it will start with 12

    When you register your unit with Humminbird, they will tell you if there are any updates. That is one reason why you are buying a Humminbird.

    And all updates are FREE instead of having to buy a new unit for the latest and greatest unlike years ago.

    If you buy it at a store, they can run the latest update before you leave.
