How well does it work on weedier lakes? On rivers is sound like it would work great, but on lakes?

It works great for finding the holes in the weeds as well as the weedlines themselves. Best walleye spot I found last year was a 10′ X 10′ clearing in 10′ of water. 2 of us pulled close to 20 eyes and several smallies out of that one gravel clearing. Wouldn’t have found it without SI. Granted we were after crappies.

gixxer01, when you found the clearing what method did you use to fish, slip bobbers, jigs, crank baits, or something else?

    Thanks in advance.

Actually, we were casting small panfish jigs and just reeling them back to the boat. Once we found out what was in there, we upsized jig jeads and just drug a leech across the gravel. Game on at that point! It was very odd, since it was maybe Mid-June and we had been fishing much deeper water for walleyes, without success. Not to mention it was very early afternoon with quite a bit of sun. Went against everything I had learned about fishing for walleye.

    gixxer01,

Sounds like a good time. Hopefully I can find a pocket like that and give it a try.

    Jeff,

Sorry for getting off topic. I bought a 1198 last year and am still learning to interpret what I am seeing, but I am very impressed with it. You can definitely see weed edges and over the top of the weeds. I haven’t found any pockets like gixxer01 has but I am sure it is just a matter of find them as I am sure the locator will show what ever is there.

This is an early growth of weeds, but I think you get the idea.

Find what youre looking for, dump a waypoint, or series of waypoints, and go fishing..

Very defined weed edge there! I like seeing screen captures. It takes a few trips to catch on to what you are looking at but once you get it, its a blast to use. I would be lost without my SI that’s for sure!
