    I was watching a Walleye Workshop video and noticed that the transducer that Scott Duncan had on his boat for Down Imaging was different than the high speed or SI one. Is there a specific transducer that produces better results with the down imaging function?

    Does this transducer do something different for the software and down imaging functionality than the side imaging transducer, i.e. would installation of one of these guys result in better performance for down imagingdybxruib than use of the the SI or standard transmove mount transducers?

    The narrow elongated transducer is the transducer for DI units. (788ci HD DI, 858c HD DI, etc.) It is the only transducer that works on them. It is not usable by SI units, or 2D-only units.
    SI units only get their down imaging and side imaging from the rectangular-shaped transducer.

    Yup. Confirmed via the HB website. Thanks!

    .

    Can you combine the 2D 455 and 200 crystals in the DI units like you can with the 83/200 divers in every other ( non HD) Humminbird model. Isn’t that what “Dual Beam Plus” technology is?

    Yes, the “Dual Beam” coverage on DI units use the 200khz and 455khz frequencies.

    Look at the Specs here.

    Cone angles/coverage will be narrower also.

    200khz = 25degrees

    455khz = 16degrees

    Read the description of “Dual Beam Plus” sonar and tell me what it means. Does it mean that you have 2 different sonar beams, or that you can select and display both on your screen at the same time? I don’t believe you can select both 455 and 200 2D beams as an option on the DI only models. In your opinion, are these dual beam plus units in the sense of the term?

    DUALBEAM PLUS SONAR
    With DualBeam PLUS™ sonar, you have a narrowly focused center beam, surrounded by a second beam of 60º, expanding your coverage to an area equal your depth – in 20 feet of water, the wider beam covers an area 20 feet wide. The first beam is focused on the bottom, to show you structure, weeds and cover. The second beam is hunting for fish in the wide coverage area. You can use the beam independently, yet working together, they give a you a clearer picture of what’s going on underneath the boat.

    reddog, looks like you’re right. Doesn’t look like the DI models have ‘true’ dual beam plus where they’re both on at the same time. Looks like your only option is to pick one of the two.
    Here’s a screenshot from page 116 & 117 of the 788 manual:
    It says that on the DI models, you cannot select both at the same time. You either choose the narrow beam, or the wide beam. On non-DI units, you’re able to run both at the same time for true dual-beam plus coverage.
    Good catch!

    Actually, I didn’t catch it, (and have no dog in the fight, as I don’t have a dedicated DI unit), but another recent purchaser is not happy about his recent purchase of an 858. Like you, Iit seemed weird to me, when the say Dual Beam Plus in their information. That’s why I was looking for a clarification /descpription of the term. I truly think it is an oversight on the info for the unit that needs to be changed, or send a software update that makes it perform as advertised.
