Finally figured I’d bite the bullet and go SI, Hummingbird has both the 998 and 1198 SI HD DI units I like.

Going to be running this on the 185 tourney sport and it looks like the 998 is just a bit bigger, but narrower top to bottom than the LCX 27C’s I have now.

I’d like to go bigger, but the 1198 almost seems to big, any thoughts???

Bigger is usually better, but not sure if the added cost is worth it.

    TIA

Al…who’s trying to talk himself into it, but damn..that is a lot of money.

Allen, bigger is better. My eyes are 64 years old , I have a 8 inch bird. It is a lot of cash, but if you can afford it do it, especially if you run a split screen, I run seperate stand alone units, and still wish I had the big ones.

    Thanks.
Same age, and the screen being narrower than my 27C and split makes me think I may have problems seeing it from the back deck.
But 3 grand is a LOT of money.

I’m wondering if they ever go on sale?

bigger is better! if budget is a concern then you are not ready to buy it… ALWAYS go as big as you can fit!

I probably should have followed this advice but I’m happy with my 858.

I started with a 997 on the dash, as I grew to like it more and more, so comes the urge to go larger. I bought an 1197 and put it on the dash, and moved the 997 to the bow.. 1197 is overkill on the dash on a boat like mine, as its sitting right in front of your face. I switched the un its and now run the 1197 on the bow(and can see everything clearly from the console on that unit, and my 997 rides on the console spot.. That is my setup for jig fishing from the bow. When the trolling bite kicks in, I invert the two units and use the 1197 on the console..

I dont think this answers your question, though..

If you watch sales I picked up my 1198 last fall for ( OUCH ) $2238 delivered. Never in my wildest dreams would I ever believe I would pay that for a depth finder, After running my 797c2SI for 5 years I new I could never go back to 2D only…… bigger. It is a lot of sugar cookies but having the larger 1198 screen it was worth every penny to me.

I just joined the HB family after many years of running lowrance. Since my new boat already came rigged with HB, I decided to stay with it since I figured it’d cost less for rigging. I opted to go all the way, and I purchased 2 1198c’s. I must say they are AWESOME The mapping is really sweet, and the menues are really easy to navigate. So far I’m really happy with them, and I don’t see that changing

    Thanks all.
Budget is a concern in the fact that I hate to spend 3k for a unit I won’t like, as it does pretty much wipe out looking out the windshield, and not to fond of that.

I did figure out (thanks to the guy at Joe’s Sporting goods) that you can save three differenet screens, so that does make the 998 more likeable.

Just wish they’d come out with a 1000 series..
