1157 depth reading issue

Hi–I have the most recent 6.1 update but am having problems reading depth. Transducer on TM. I am having an issue with the unit reading the depth so that no matter what depth i’m in it will read 2.3ft on the digital display and it will revert into 5ft max mode when this happens if I have it set for Auto depth.. To remedy the problem I’ve tried adjusting the sensitivity…lowering the sensitivity thinking I’m marking a water temp gradient, but that did not work. I also increased the sensitivity and even set it so Switchfire to no avail. What I’ve wound up doing is setting the Max depth at around 20 ft, since I normally put my boat in between 12-20 fow. At least this way the graph shows all the way to 20 ft, rather than reverting to 5ft (in which case I cannot see bottom b/c the bottom is say 14ft down, but the graph bottoms out at 5ft). Sometimes when running 20ft max depth, the digital readout will display the actual depth, but then it will revert back to displaying 2.3ft. Any thoughts on how to address this?

Had the exact same issue last year and ended up having to replace the transducer…

I just got my transducer back from Bird for the same issue.

Already did the default reset and that did not work either.

What? I have to send the transducer in to HB? Will they fix it or send a new one?

Can a bad SI transducer (transom mount) effect the thru hull transducer reading at high speeds? I also get a ton of interference now on the graph at high speeds where I never used to.

Which units do you have? It may be your thru hull may of come loose. Do you manually switch from SI to in hull? The new update for the 800 900 1100 series took away the automatic settings have you installed the 6.1 updates.

I have the 898C. I do not have to manually switch it. I was told it switches to the hull automatically at 5mph or so. I just looked, I am still on the 5.7 Version Software. The thru hull transducer seems to be solidly affixed to the hull still. I wonder if the unit uses the thru hull for the 2D at speeds below 5mph? If it does it might make sense that the thru the hull transducer is the problem.
