788 CI DI contour lines not showing.

Could someone tell me what I need to do?

I have a 788 ci HD Di finder. I had it on my boat (worked fine) and then put it on my ATV. While on my ATV I had two chips in it. Both were Lakemasters for the bird. One is a chip for Minnesota and the other is for Rainy Lake. While on my ATV the Rainy chip wouldn’t show the lake contours. I had the unit set on Auto to pick the right chip but I still switched slots because nothing else worked. Anyway it started showing the contours along with depths and all was well.

Today I took my boat out so as to make sure that all is well. When I fired up the now reattached 788 again I have the GPS fix and lake showing but no depths or contours. I again switched slots but this time it didn’t help.

I am guessing some dang thing needs to be switched within the menu options but I can’t figure out which one.
Can someone tell me what I need to do to get the map working right?

    Thanks for any help!

    Thank You!

I did what you said but still no depths. I can make out the lines faintly, but no depths are showing up.

I guess now I will have to play with it next weekend. Thanks anyway!

i would check first on whether or not you’ve got the contour lines turned off.

if they are turned on, try manually selecting the proper mapchip rather than leaving it on “auto select”. i find that sometimes the “auto select” doesn’t make the correct choice.
for example, both of my units (with updated software) will predictably pick the Lakemaster MN chip rather than my Navionics North chip even when i’m located in WI. when it picks the “wrong” chip and i’m outside the coverage area such as that, i just get a basemap view of the lake – with no contour lines.
i go into the menu and manually select which chip i want to use for the area i’m in and then all is well.

Please make sure you have chart detail level set to all and spot soundings set to visible on the unit. Also did you adjust your zoom level, different areas may require different zoom levels to see contours on the lake.

You would also want to make sure you have the most recent software update for your 788ci DI unit.

I printed the responses and will go over everything when I finally get to take the boat out again. Last week I did up date the software so at least that’s done.

Thanks for the helpful tips! When a person doesn’t use his stuff daily it’s like you have to re-learn things. It is so refreshing having the forum to help figure things out.

I will let you know if I get it to go and what the problem was.

Well it seems the 788 is working now. I am not sure if it was the update or choosing the card slot instead of putting it on auto, but all seems well

I guess next week when I go out will be the real test.

Put the card select back on “auto” and see what happens and let us know.
