Humminbird si problem

I’m trying to install a 798si in a friends boat. I found level when the boat in water then leveled the transducer accordingly. Everything is where it needs to be. Now the left side imaging won’t work. I’ve tried bringing it out further with another mounting plate. I’ve made sure the transducer is not hitting anything. I noticed when you put the motor in gear the si gets blurry. Anyone have any suggestions. Also it’s wired into the fuse panel. Thanks in advance.

You need to explain “wont work” further.. Like, No image on the left, or blurred image on the left, of black image on the left etc.

It could be any number of things.

Sorry there is an image but it won’t follow contour or show objects so I guess it would be blurred.

If you look down the transom, is there anything in the way of the transducer on the left side…even slightly? When I mounted mine, I placed it on a 1″ mounting plate which made it clear the screen on the livewell inlet. Will the motor obstruct the transducer if it’s trimmed all the way down? That will cause problems too. Another reason it could be distorting is if it’s mounted too close to the motor.

If you havent secured the cable yet, mount the transducer to a board and run it completely independent of the boat with absolutely no chance of any obstruction. This will eliminate any chance of a transducer that isnt working correctly.

Like mentioned above, the slightest obstacle will affect performance, but it sounded like you already used two thicknesses of transducer savers.

RE: when I put the motor in gear,
which side did you mount the transducer on?
which direction does your prop turn?
How close is the transducer to the engine?

The transducer is 16″ from the motor on the right side of the boat. The prop spins clockwise.

Maybe try to wiring it directly to the battry and see what happens? Do a search for Humminbird side imaging forums sideimagingsoft.com FOR SURE you will get some good info on that board.

Post a picture of your transducer installation, and post a SI screencapture so we can see whats going on.
