I don’t know but it better be something impressive to top Humminbird.

I would say that StructureMap is the competitor to 360 imaging however I wouldn’t be surprised to see Humminbird come out with something similar since it is really a software change (although, Lowrance is only doing it on their Gen2 units which possess greater processing speed/power)

Lowrance just put out a new StructureScan unit too, the StuctureScan HD which has higher resolution and greater range (600ft).

    Specs:
    Sidescan Imaging:
    Max Range: 600ft/183m side-to-side
    Max Speed –
    Track bottom: 35 mph/56 kph
    Mark objects: 15 mph/ 24 kph
    Optimum imaging: 2-8 mph/3-13 kph

    Downscan Imaging™:
    Max Depth: 300 ft / 92 m
    Max Speed –
    Track bottom: 55 mph/88 kph
    Mark objects: 35 mph/ 56 kph
    Optimum imaging: 2-8 mph/3-13 kph

360 imaging is cool but it is very expensive being that it’s deployed on a Minnkota Talon, it costs over $2000.

It’s key advantages over StructureMap is that it is relatively live data which could allow you to target fish images as well as strucuture and compared to StructureMap, you don’t have to scan an area before you fish it.

    Hi,
I’m finding it a little hard to believe how LOW’s StructureMap compares a technology (HB 360 Imaging) that cast’s a beam anywhere (360 deg) around the boat (including in front of the boat) with a range of up to 150ft and displays that information on a screen being refreshed every six seconds.

The LOW StructureMap data is being collected via a fixed transom mounted transducer (LSS HD or LSS2 >>> and roughly 11 inches long!!!!) so any information displayed on either the HDS 8 or 10 is historical (IE. old information). Plus LOW StructureMap is only available on two screens; map/SI and SI full.

    Am I missing something???

No, you are not missing anything (if you look at my last paragraph I make the same comment), however, unless you are fishing moving structure (that would be a new pattern), the only difference is the fish/baitfish on the screen and while that’s important, it’s only part of the game. Not to mention that the StructureMap could be only seconds old, historically.

And I’m not sure what your concern is about what screen it’s available as, it’s an overlay to your GPS map (so, ANY screen that has the chart, i.e. Sonar + chart). What else do you need?

Humminbird had a unit at the demo days in walker last weekend but it was not working. It is huge and requires some serious space and rigging on your transom.

My personal opinion on this is that no one is going to buy it. Humminbird is requiring dealers to stock 30 units (or so I’ve heard) and I doubt many dealers are going to take that risk. You might find one or two guys that have to have the latest and greatest and will buy it but I just don’t see the average electronics geek fisherman shelling out $2k + a bracket + rigging.

Here’s some images that show the power of 360 Imaging. Especially check out the Time Lapse Images that is how 360 Imaging is going to operate.

If your worried how big the SS transducer is…. Wait until you see how big that 360 unit is on the back of your boat! Ha!

Nate, have you seen what is coming down the pike now, I Pilot / Lake Master?
This is what I was talking about when I stoped at your work place early this year.
