Help- HB 898c SI mounting location

Hi all- Read forum all the time but this is my first post. The dealer installed my transducer for the 898SI. It reads great to the left for 120 ft but only shoots about 30 ft to the right. Obviously it’s getting obstructed somewhere. The boat is an Alumacraft Nav 165CS 2011.

Anyone have any ideas on mounting location? I’ve been told it needs to be at the base of the hull. Just want to make sure since this will be the 3rd time I will be taking it back to the shop.

    Thanks in advance-

Have you tried trimming your motor up a bit? Mine does the same thing if my motor is trimmed all the way down. Once I trim up a bit it reads good on both sides.

I did. Had the motor out of the water and nothing changed.

I had to piggy back 2 transducer boards to have it stick out far enough from the boat that it wouldn’t pickup my well intake screen and plug. It’s picking up something from the motor side

And it appears to be pointing down too far

Interesting. I wonder if its hitting the screen and/or the 597 ducer on the other side… Thanks!

    Hi,
I ran across an X-Ray picture of an HDSI x-ducer recently that might help visualize the mounting challenges of HB 2D/SI/DI transducers. Like I stated, the picture is of a HDSI x-ducer (like what comes standard w/ 800, 900, or 1100 SI/DI boxes). I suspect that the Compact Side Image x-ducer that comes with the 700 series boxes is built along the same lines. The top edge of the SI beam is parallel w/ the bottom of the x-ducer. The bottom edge of the SI beam is slightly beyond perpendicular w/ the bottom of the x-ducer. Note that the SI cone runs almost the entire length of the x-ducer. The 2D x-ducer is the “puck” in the middle.

    Hope that helps someone.

    Take care,
    Roger
