I guess maybe I’m overthinking this a little, but does the motor “block” some of the returns when using side image depending on the side of the boat the transducer is mounted????

It can and will if it’s mounted incorrectly and the motor is trimmed all the way down.
That is why I’m mounting mine with the “Y” cable and another SI transducer.

X2 worked great for me!
I have to trim my big motor ( outboard ) out a tad to get a good clear picture of my port side, my transducer in on the starboard side. Kicker motor never bothers the SI.
