    Hi guys,
Humminbird will be announcing today an add-on for all Ethernet capable boxes (w/ Update) a feature that will take sonar to the NEXT level. It’s called Humminbird 360 Imaging. It won’t be cheap (~ $2K) and will be available late summer 2012 (we’ll see!).

Here is a link to the streaming announcement that will be available 2 PM today.

Here is a link to Cabelas that shows some info on the unit.

    Let the games begin!!!

Below are some screen shots that I have found.

    Take care,

    $2K for a sonar?

Most of us are not going to drop that kind of money for any sonar regardless of brand or it’s ability to show us whats down there. Yes, there will be a few people who can afford to drop a couple $K here and there but the average fishermen will just be looking at these units on display and not in there boat. We’ll be the ones hoping that someday the price will drop enough that we can talk our wives into letting us buy one.

Cool stuff for sure but way out of my price range.

Have to say spendy but what a tool when on those roving Crappies and knowing which direction they are moving.

I may need to buy another SI tranducer and mount it on the end of a broom stick and use the o`l wrist system. Might cost me $7.99.

Today it’s Humminbird, tomorrow, it’s Lowrance.
    Technology never sits still.
My guess is Lowrance will have the touch screens very soon as Navico has already introduced them on the Simrad units.
Only thing that does sit still is… my wages to get these goodies

Awesome, this should bring down the price of SI and DI. I hope.

Will the HB units take multiple ducers like that, or would you have to have another unit or swap ducers with your existing one?

I agree with ya. This stuff is all neat as heck, but unless you are loaded or add it onto a loan on a boat you can’t afford, this kind of stuff won’t find its way into most boats for another 5 years.
The only hope is like what was already mentioned, that maybe this will bring down the price of the SI units.

All one needs is a transducer a Y cable and switch ( broom handle ). Some units will let the choice on which transducer to be made in the menu.

I know that this feature is pricey but so are the big units. I can’t afford it or the big units but 1100 series is HB best selling unit. Don’t know for fact but that is what I been told at 3 different locations that sell them. I would assume Lowrance would be the same.

keep in mind that this is an add-on component for existing systems that have ethernet.

sure, there will be some guys buying brand new boats and rigging them top-to-bottom with everything money can buy. but i bet this will appeal even more to the folks who like to upgrade their boat with something every year or so. they already have a ‘Bird network and can plug this right in.

very cool, and just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what’s coming over the next few years. the really high-end saltwater boat electronics are unbelievable, just have to bring the price into range for our smaller freshwater rigs! think sonar/gps units running over wireless networks with real-time data connections to the web…
