Humminbird 788ci HD DI for ice fishing?

Has anyone used one of the above for ice fishing? How is the separation and response time compared to a Marcum (which I have). I seen on the Humminbird website that it shows the XI 9 20 transducer works for the 788c but does not mention the 788ci. Will it work?

    Thanks,

    Hi,
Looking at the Owners Manual for your 788ci HD DI (the Transducer select option under the Sonar tab), it looks your unit will support the Universal Sonar 2 option. That means it will support the 200 kHz portion of the 200/83 kHz ice ducer. Your unit (I believe) only supports 200/455 kHz frequencies.

I use my old 797c for ice fishing in the winter and as a Quadbeam trolling box in summer (it has been retired from SI work by much bigger HB boxes on my boat!). For ice fishing I usually have the beam select at 200 kHz since the 83 kHz shows little (there is a rumor that the ice ducer only has one crystal to support both 200 kHz and 83 kHz).

A hint: When you’re using your unit for ice fishing make sure to have the RTS Window setting (set) to wide. It will allow you to instattly “see” targets that not are visible on your graph screen. I can easily track a #10 Gill Pill on the lake bottom in 30 ft of water.

    Have fun,
    Roger

I just tried my HB 597HD out tonight with the ice transducer. It worked good, although just took sometime getting use to. I normaly fish with a HB 55 or a Vex 18. You will like it.
