    Hey Guys,

Please take a look at this post: HB Terrova US2 Issue

Can someone provide an explanation of what actual issue is? Is it really a problem with all HB units or is it just a problem with select models?

    Thanks,
    Drew

I have heard of interference issues with the bird / Terrova combo using the US2.

I think (think not sure) it is isolated to some of the HB units, but in the back of my mind I’m remembering (not to spread rumors) it may be broader in the HB lineup.

I’m still at this point going to make a change in my electronics this spring, either one or both will be HB’s even though I bought a US2 with my Terrova to maybe never use!

I’ve got a 987csi HB and a Low, Lcx15mt, that I’m either going to sell both or only one and add to the other remaining one to the rear of my boat. Humm, I’m still undecided.

My point is don’t shy away from the HB units on this issue. There is also shallow water reading for depths, but if you look at down imaging and not the number stated on your graft to read your bottom depth, it is resolved.

Other that what I have said, I yield to other defiantly more knowledgeable folks here on IDO!

    Hope to have helped!

No plans to shy away from HB. Especially now that they are owned by the same company that owns Lakemaster. I have a lowrance in the back and an HB up front. They are comparable units, but absoulutely love the HB.

Not only that, but the fix mentioned above works very well. I was out yesterday and the chord slides very nicely in the groove. So I am not too upset, but still like the US2 to work.

For the most extreme cases of interference, there is a add on electrical choke called a TMC1 for the power cord to the trolling motor. Use this, in conjunction with a PC11 power cord to the depth finder.

They also say to not to thread the transducer cord back down the coiled power cord, although I run mine that way, and havent seen any significant change in the picture. (I’m running a 997 with a HDSI Side Imaging xducer up front.)

There has been much discussion about what causes this type on interference, and to date, it really hasnt been nailed down. Identical boats, wired with identical equipment by the same guy…. some that need interference intervention and some that dont.

It is definitly not a brand issue. Both companies are having battles.

One thing is for certain, the diameter of the Humminbird transducer cord will fit in the slot of the Terrova. The Lowrance cord is too large of a diameter to run in the slot.

In the past, Humminbird has supplied the TMC1 at no charge.

If you look in one of the pictures in the post metioned above you can see this installed. They also sent me 2 ferrite rings. One for the power cable and one for the transducer.

I registered my product today, and found that it had an update (or at least it said there was an update). I read the description, and it said “fix for trolling motor interference”. I was thinking, “Oh Goody”!!! I went to update my sonar unit, and unfortunately it must have shipped with the latest software and their “fix for trolling motor interference” must not have taken. Bummer!
