Wanted to see if anyone has played with the Helix SI yet. I live several hours (3+) away from any store that has one in stock. Just wanted to get an idea of how the overall features are compared to other HB units are. I have read about all I can about the units and still not sure. I am not sure how much I would use the side image portion. I fish mainly walleye on the Missouri River in the Dakota’s. I would love to have a 10 inch screen but its out of the budget. The other unit I have looked at is the Lowrance elite-7 DI (no chirp), I have a local bead on one. I am not sure how much I would use the SI and it seems like every year the technology changes so much your are always behind the curve.

Just looking for any opinions you might have.

The point of a SI unit is to see detail of fish, structure and the bottom of the lake contours, bottom line that’s hard to do with a 5″ screen. You would be better off trying to find a used 998 SI unit…with the current rebates on new humminbirds, used prices should come down a bit…

I have two 1100 series and a 10 inch Onix, but to be honest, the Helix interests me almost enough to give one a try. The screen orientation is such that it lends itself better to SI than any of the 700 series of the past. I definitely think it would be a viable unit for someone that is challenged by a budget.
