A persistent low pressure system has covered the Hayward area with low clouds, rain and wind for the past several days. Surface water temperatures have dropped as much as 10 degrees in the past week, with consistent fish activity falling away at the same time. However, persistence paid off for us during this time period, with many species making brief trips to the boat for young and old alike. Shallow cranks after dark and live bait fished slow along deep weed edges during the day were our keys for staying on fish.
