Looking at possibly coming up to this area end of may of 2007. We mainly fish for walleye and take time out for some panfish. Trying to locate a lake good for these species or any other lakes in the surrounding counties. Any help is appreciated.

End of May…water’s still likely on the cool side so I would tend towards a smaller lake for better action. I like Lost Land and Teal at this time of year for both eyes and crappies. Lost Land has a great early season crappie bite that my family and I really enjoy. Good lodging options on LLL as well.

A good early season big water bet is the Chippewa Flowage…it has dark water so it warms up more quickly than some of the other, clear-water lakes.

Let us know if we can help in any other way!

brooktrout,I found a reasonable priced private cabin on Lake Chetac. How is the fishing on this lake in that time frame? Any of the lakes you mentioned in the surrounding areas? We have our own boat and like to hit other lakes. We are looking to stay for 2 weeks. Thanx for any info I can get from everyone.

Chetac is a *GOOD* early season lake. Lost Land, Teal, and the flowage are all quite a ways north/east of Chetac. A good option for a day trip from Chetac is the Chetek Chain of lakes. These are very fertile, very productive bodies of water, and are very well known for quality panfishing and lots of bass.

Baldwin ; I fish Big Chetac alot in the spring and early summer. Being from Barron its not far for me to go and we do very well on eyes there pretty much all we target. But we do get some very nice jumbo perch while fishing for eyes. mainly we use slip bobbers with leech’s. but there are some very good lakes not more than a few miinutes away just to the north. I have my camper on a permanent site on Sand lake but fish LCO, Grindstone and whitefish which have been just great for the eyes this year.Same tactic as on Chetac but in the cabbage weeds. Find a bed of cabbage weeds and you’ll find the eyes. Its mainly a early morning and late afternoon bite. if ya have nay other question feel free to message me.

vman, thanx for the info. We are possibly going to make it up this year come Labor Day weekend. Want to check out the lake and hopefully find some fish. Maybe we can hook up.

Booked cabin for Sept. 2-6 of this year on Chetac. How is the fishing usually this time of year there? Any helpful tips are appreciated. Maybe might run into some of you guys while there. I have the 2006 Navionics card to help locate some structure hopefully.
