No, but I’ve had other fishermen poke their nose in my gear while I walk to the parking lot to retrieve my truck. Sometimes being solo has it’s drawbacks.

I never touch but looking what’s attached to a rod is fair game in my mind.
July 6, 2022 at 7:24 pm #2133719Ya but, while the DNR is checking you out,
they have the nerve to send in their fishing partner to “Snoop Dog” to check it out that closely!
MX1825Posts: 3319July 6, 2022 at 11:25 pm #2133753Doubt he was looking for fish or baits Denny. You weren’t throwing out a nervous vibe or have dilated pupils by chance?
July 7, 2022 at 7:15 am #2133763Just found this to be a humorous pic.
I found it humorous too. The real reason they employ dogs is to look for aquatic invasive species. Yes, they’ve trained dogs to smell them just like they look for drugs or bombs. Clean, drain, dry!

No Mr. O, you cannot add up all of the days you DIDNT catch any walleye and make up for it in one day.July 7, 2022 at 9:22 am #2133784What if the dog was looking for AIS, and they find you with an over limit of fish? Illegal search?

In Minnesota I’m not sure there is such a thing as an illegal search of an open boat by the DNR based on Colosimo case. It was ruled that there is no expectation of privacy in an open boat and 97A.251 says it’s unlawful to “(2) refuse to submit to inspection of equipment used to take wild animals while in the field, licenses, or wild animals; or (3) refuse to allow inspection of a motor vehicle, boat, or other conveyance used while taking or transporting wild animals.” It was concluded that the DNR does not need suspicion to be able to search areas of an open boat.
July 7, 2022 at 10:02 am #2133793So If I am pulling my covered boat from storage to my home, or home to a shop. I am not using motor vehicle or boat for taking or transporting game, therefore I can refuse search? Would the CO have to witness me on the water attempting to taking game (fish). If boat is covered, does this negate “Open boat”? I guess this is where attorneys would get involved.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
In Colosimo case the officer approached the boat while it was already stopped, as part of a portage, so the ability to stop wasn’t in question is how I understand it.
I think in terms of while “looking for AIS” you are already stopped and they could see if you have fishing gear or not so that’s probably fair game to search without any actual suspicion.
July 7, 2022 at 12:12 pm #2133819A couple of musky nuts are out fishing when they turn the corner they hear a lady screaming. “A huge Muskie just ate my dog, that dang fish just ate my dog!” The fishermen get a little closer and ask “what color was the dog?”
That was a In-fishermen commercial many years ago. I loved that one ” What color was muffy ” as he looks down in his bait box
