Has Bass fishing slowed up for anyone else?

Still getting a few they seem to really be buried in the weeds or on the weed edge. I think I need to try the Neko rig or drop shoting. Just for my own sanity has it slowed up for others or have I lost my edge frown I tried top water nothing there but I will say the heat has really been bad. I live in central MN

Deffinatley slowed up for me. Went out Sunday and we caught them few and far between. More caught in the pads early morning on frogs but still not many.
    Mid summer is always tougher

This is the time that punch fishing really pays off. Either that or fall back to fishing rivers. Fish stay a lot more active in them during this time.

Go to store, buy 1/5 Ned jigs with the larger hook and black/blue 4″ TRD. Go to lake and fish a little deeper along weedlines or rocky areas. If you mark some panfish, all the better. Proceed to catch fish that you didn’t know would bite! grin

I’ve been doing pretty good lately just fishing a little deeper past the shore lines with the Ned rig. If it has some rock then all the better. If you are on clear lakes then you may have to go a little deeper. If not, then not as deep.

It has…in the lakes. Go to the rivers! Forget the lakes. The smallmouth fishing in rivers is tremendous this time of year. I catch most of mine on topwater lures too.

I know next to nothing about bass fishing, but I tried out the Turd worm(Ned rig) the other day on a clear deep metro lake. I had the family in the boat so I didn’t do a whole lot of dedicated fishing, but probably had 30-45 minutes of true fishing in there.

We were fishing deep weed edges(spot locked or slowly trolling along in 11-12 feet of water), and I had quite a few bites. I think I landed 4 bass, nothing big, but probably missed at least a half dozen bites cause I suck at this.

Seemed pretty productive? I probably fished about 1/10,000th of the weed edge around the lake, like a seriously little amount.

If you try it, please do everyone a favor and refer to it as the turd worm, it’s good luck.

It has gotten tough for me here in Central Minnesota. The rapid increase in surface temps almost always cause the bite to slow down. Like other have said. This time of the year you need to either fish the fish that are buried in the weeds or those out off the deeper weed edges. The dog days of summer came on really fast this year. the slow warm up followed by a raid warm up made for a shorter than normal Pre Dog days bite this year. Hopefully we will get a extended good fall bite to make up for it.

Lakes with thermoclines will hold Bass in the ‘open water’.

    Just saying.

Don’t forget that water temperature structure, can be a big one in the summer.

I have a lot better success when I can target days with rain in the forecast during these warm summer months. When a low pressure front kicks in, the fish move shallow and the bite is on. Not only that, but there are a lot less people on the lakes too. A little rain keeps virtually every single recreational watercraft off the lake.

I fish a Thursday night multi species league and we’ve been doing pretty decent on bass with jigworms and dropshots. Bass definitely are in the deeper weeds or on the edge. Like mentioned above, find the small panfish and the bass will be there. One exception to this was this last Sunday morning on a Wright County lake. Struck out on walleyes in the morning and decided to target smallies. Noticed several fish surfacing on shallow flats with sparse weeds. First pitch of a drop shot senko was a feisty 18 3/4″ smallie, followed by several more. 3-6 fow, windy side of lake, 80-81deg surface temp. Water clarity was low with a moderate algae growth.

Thanks everyone! I was not looking for pity but sometimes when fishing you just get in a rut. grin Excellent ideas here that I will try this weekend thanks so much! I definitely need to stock up on ned rigs and drop shoting supplies.

It’s actually gotten better for me. I’ve finally found a finesse rig that I ENJOY using. I’ve been fishing the Neko Rig in 20-30 ft of water and crushing on deep weedlines. Went out again this morning and caught 7 fish in the first hour. You will find fish up shallow still and sometimes big ones, but the numbers and majority of big fish are out on deep structure now until Fall and they are munching.
