Hard to say goodbye

At the end of this season I will be upgrading to a FLX-28. I will be moving my FL-12 to my backup and passing my trusty FL-8 on to my brother’s wife’s uncle.
I have been having a hard time getting used to the idea of not having the old girl with me. Even though she became my backup a few years ago it was always there with me for the last 18 years. I caught countless numbers of fish with her. It came on every trip just in case something went wrong.
I’m sure this is sounds silly, but I look at it like I looked at my first car. Sure there are flashier, faster ones, but my first was always there to take on whatever you could throw at it. I learned and grew as a fisherman with that unit. My daughter learned on that unit.
I’m sure, just like cars once you get the new one, you wonder how you ever made it without all the bells and whistles of the new one.

Keep her in your heart and she’ll always be with you in the ice shack.

Going on 14 years with a pair…Can’t imagine seeing the day they’re gone…which may be hard, because they’re all but see-through at this point.

I was very attached to my 18 until I got my 28. Now the 18 is dead to me. The grass is truly greener!

I still feel the same way about my old lowrance greenbox. Simple orange flasher. No irrating flickering colors. The thicker and brighter the orange you know it’s in the center of the cone. Every time I look at the new gimmicks I wish I had a switch to turn all the garbage off and use a basic flasher

I felt the same way about my Lawrence Bluewater flasher that i bought in the early 80’s. Had it in my boat for over 30 years. Then 2 years ago I decided to put a Garmin 93sv in the boat. Was unsure about keeping both in the boat. Ultimately I decided to go cold turkey and use only the Garmin.
I still miss the flasher, but certainly don’t miss the constant whirring of the flasher motor. It was time to move on.

Just don’t let her hear you talk about upgrading to a younger model with nicer knobs.

Those are push buttons. Knobs come with family growth and natural food supply.
