DNR does a good job-fisheries people are all fisherman too, very helpful.
Stocking-The DNR gets a lot of pressure to stock lots of lakes with lots of walleyes. They also stock lakes with other species like trout. Stocking trout is very expensive so they are careful where they stock that fish. Because not everyone fishes for trout they require those who do to buy a stamp.
Walleye stocking is also expensive-the person who started this thread caught walleye in a stocked southern Mn. lake, those lakes are dark and have few northern pike, great place to stock. The DNR stocks many lakes with walleyes with huge #s of stunted pike-not such a good idea, but they are pressured to do it. Lakes where they stock trout they very carefully look at pike specifically and would not just dump in those expensive trout.
dump fish in where the numbers are high
