Happy October everyone! My three favorite months of the year have always been September, October, and November and I can’t believe it’s October already! I started putting up the Halloween decorations last night, and if you recall from last Halloween… my favorite sign (see photo)! We’ve had to go to some extremes to get kids to quit knocking or ringing our door bell since we don’t hand out candy. We have the lights off – that used to be enough! Now we have the lights off AND run caution tape through the front door’s railing so people can’t walk up to the door easily. That seems to work.

October is my favorite. Our Halloween stuff was pulled out last night and will be going up soon. I just have to figure out how to build the new ideas my wife has.

Sharon you put up Halloween decorations and don’t hand out candy???

    Seems counterintuitive.

I was going to ask the exact same thing, but decided to just be polite (something I struggle with, LOL) instead

If we didn’t have dogs then we would love to hand out candy. But since we got the dogs, I just don’t think it’s fair to them to have random people coming to the door. They bark and get all worked up, then by the time they settle back down there’s another knock at the door – it’s just not worth it.

I celebrate Halloween in several other ways though, so yes, I love Halloween though I don’t hand out candy. tongue

Hang a sign on your caution tape with my address on it. Ive been trying to think of a way to get more trick or treaters over. My little kids had more fun giving away candy last year then getting it.

Agreed, and Sharon seems so nice otherwise… rotflol rotflol

I think we are going to go with the driveway fire pit to hand out candy this year, and beers for the parents. I kind of agree with Sharon that it’s tough on the dogs, but I’m not a Halloween Scrooge! whistling jester

Tired of buying candy and having no or 1-3 kids stop by then I eat the rest. So about 3yrs ago I got a stack of Susan B Anthony’s to give out and have only given out two.

Half of your candy appears to have been opened already. That candy is no longer “safe”……and I think that juicy fruit may be sugar free????

Lol oh picky picky! Okay I’ll buy some tootsie rolls mwahahaha! I’ve never been a fan of tootsie rolls and as a kid it seemed like everyone handed them out. My favorites are butterfingers, snickers, peanut butter cups, and blow pops.

What are some of your guys’ favorites?

Oh the horror of Halloween! devil I still remember as a kid I had to give almost all my candy to my little sister. flame I’m allergic to chocolate and dairy products. Remember those yucky orange or black peanut butter hard chewy candies yuck! I got stuck with all of those. Now I just buy a fishing lure at Halloween makes me feel better yay

I lived in MPLS as a kid in the 80s. We would go out with dad, and my mom would hand out candy at home. One year she counted 300 kids. It was always over 100. The good ol days.

I think this is an exact repeat of last year.

Tired of buying candy and having no or 1-3 kids stop by

We always have the same problem no matter how much decorating and how good of candy we have. Its hard to compete with the new developments that have houses every ten feet when where we live there is 1-3 houses per block and half of them must be named Sharon.

I like October too. I would rate it as one of my top three months along with November and May. Can’t say I’m a big fan of the candy at Halloween but I do like the holiday itself. Carving a jack o lantern for my front porch is something I look forward to.

Unfortunately, I have a new crown, and I don’t think they’d be too friendly on the dental work.
